Jeep Wrangler next generation will get a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission

The legendary Jeep Wrangler SUV new generation which debut will take place in 2017 will receive an 8-speed automatic transmission produced by German company ZF. According to US media reports, the Fiat Chrysler concern submits a special application to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). To date, the 8-speed ZF transmission is used in many models of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles concern, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango and Ram 1500. Officials of the group say that later this gearbox will be installed in all vehicles except the large Ram pickup trucks and Dodge Viper sport coupe.

Jeep Wrangler SUV current generation has a 5-speed automatic transmission. Installation of a new 8-speed ZF automatic transmission will significantly reduce fuel consumption. Now the car spends in the combined cycle about 12.3 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers. As previously reported, the Jeep Wrangler SUV next generation will continue to use the frame structure and receive light aluminum body panels that will reduce the curb weight of the car.

In addition, there is information that the management of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles wants to deprive Jeep Wrangler SUV next generation of the familiar 3.6-liter six-cylinder units, in favor of smaller fuel-efficient engines with the turbine. It is possible that a new generation of the legendary car will get a diesel version.
