New Wrangler will be built on Jeep own chassis

Jeep is going to put new life into its off-road classic. Unlike many colleagues who are moving to the FIAT platform, Wrangler next generation of Americans is going to be constructed on their own chassis. This was told by a top manager Mike Manley in an interview to Edmunds.

He noted that currently the descendant of the legendary Willys MB 1941 is a benchmark. It should retain its own architecture for keeping this status. The designers will be engaged in the modernization of the familiar frame base. However, the body can be made of aluminum only to reduce the overall weight. It was previously announced by Sergio Marchionne, who heads the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles).

The SUV already received V-shaped six-cylinder petrol engines which correspond to environmental standards Euro-5. Reassuring the public, Manley said that the power unit will receive a considerable attention of engineers. The new Wrangler will be born in 2017. He’ll get a lot of innovation, but will retain a recognizable shape.
